New Photobook is Done!

Simply stated, I love Shutterfly.  I love the options with their photobooks – the page layouts, designs and just the overall ease of it.  Plus the books are so well done, it’s great for any professional to show off their work.

Awhile back I had created some photobooks to show clients and bring to shows and I’ve wanted to create a new one since adding new services & products.  Well thanks to a huge sale they had I finally got around to doing it!  You can view the photobook by clicking here.  Let me know what you think about it!

Amazing Autumn Wedding

While tagging pictures on this new blog I realized I never posted about this unbelievably amazing wedding I coordinated last Fall. It was amazing for a few different reasons – the decor, the size of the wedding party and how awesome it was to work with this family. This was definitely the largest wedding party I’ve ever worked with, 37 to be exact – Bride & Groom, 2 Maids of Honor, 13 Bridesmaids, 2 Best Men, 8 Groomsmen, 3 Flower Girls, 2 Page Boys, 1 Ring Bearer and the parents of the Bride & Groom. At first I was a bit overwhelmed thinking about how many people that really is but I was relieved when I met them all at the Rehearsal. This wedding party was on the ball, they listened (and remembered what I said), they cooperated and they were fun to work with! They ended up being the ideal wedding party.

In addition to working with this great family I also had the opportunity to work with some fabulous vendors for the first time. With amber uplights, Jim Powers of CJC Event Lighting transformed The Great Hall of Mechanics Hall into a romantic and stunning masterpiece. It was the perfect example of what lighting can do for a space. The other fabulous vendor was Leslie Boudreau of Innovative Photography Services. She was a blast to work with and her shots were amazing. Below are a few images from the wedding, there are more on our Wedding site. The last photo shows the custom fabric luminaries I created for the large stage at Mechanics Hall. The aubergine, burgundy and gold fabric worked well with the Fall color scheme and the candlelight across the stage complemented the uplighting perfectly.

What’s New at So Chic?!

What’s new…hmmm that’s a loaded question. It’s probably easier to tell you what’s NOT new! When I first logged onto my blog this morning I realized I needed to do a little housekeeping, it was a bit dusty! I have been doing a LOT of brainstorming over the last 5 months about my business, where I’d like it to go, where my true passion lies…the list could go on. I LOVE being creative, absolutely love it in all it’s forms. If you were to come over and see my studio you’d see what I mean. Over the last 5 months I have dusted off (apparently doing a lot of that!) my sewing machine and my embroidery machine. I have more cardstock, stamp sets, embossing powder, embellishments, ribbon and fabric than a lot of people. I’ve also discovered the fun of applique (after a few tries) and I’m working on a certificate in graphic design which I’m hoping to have complete by the end of this year. There isn’t just one creative outlet that I enjoy, I enjoy many, I feel like I’m a power strip I have so many outlets!

Ok, so where am I going with this? Since I started this business I’ve always offered some custom designs, although I’ve discovered a lot of people that didn’t know this, but I’ve decided to expand on those designs quite a bit. For awhile now I’ve wanted to get more products in my etsy store and it’s finally happening. Last night I listed several ring pillows and bridal bags and I’ll be adding other items in the coming weeks. Many of the items I posted (the red prints and the cream/black damask) were created with fabric that I purchased from Venezie Fabrics. I’m a visual person, I like to see things in person and now that Karen opened up a storefront close by I stop in often to check out what fabrics she has (which is a lot by the way!). And since I’m sewing quite a bit my new super cute pear shaped pin cushion is quite handy!
I have a lot of ideas and projects in the works and my ultimate goal is to create a variety of items for all types of events. Here are a few things on that list (some of which I’ve always offered): Banners & signs, labels & tags for favors, chair backs, candy buffets etc, monograms & logos, invitations & other stationery items, runners, ring pillows & bridal bags. All of the craft supplies I mentioned above? Those will all be put to good use!
If you have something you’d like for your next event, give me a shout! I’d love to create something just for you. So stay tuned, there’s lots of good things coming to So Chic!

Here are pictures of a few of the pillows I listed on etsy last night, visit my store to see all of them.

Birthday Party – Red Sox Style

My youngest son is one of my biggest allies when it comes to planning a party.  He definitely indulges me and always gives me a great theme to work with.  This year I thought I had him sold on a cowboy theme but he decided that just wasn’t it.  Instead he decided he wanted a Red Sox party.  Now he is a huge Red Sox fan and honestly I think that’s an understatement.  He loves baseball and knows more about each team than I can even comprehend.  As I started to play with ideas in my head I realized I could really have fun with this!

Among his requests were that everyone played a whiffle ball game – kids versus adults and Red Sox attire was pretty much mandatory.  Well the whiffle ball game ultimately made me decide that I really needed to incorporate some key elements of Fenway Park into this party. I was determined to turn my parents back yard into a mini Fenway Park!

Guests received ticket style invitations featuring David Ortiz and they came out awesome!  I found those on eBay from Magic Design Invitations, they were perfect.  They definitely set the tone and everyone got the hint to wear their Red Sox gear.   Food included peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs and my personal favorite – italian sausages with peppers & onions, which in my book is a must when I visit Fenway.
Below are some images from the party.  You can visit our Facebook page for more images.

The life size wall graphics were a hit with kids and adults alike!
David Ortiz & Kevin Youkilis were on the other wall.  These were so realistic that I got mad at myself for making one dirty and then realized it was part of the graphic.

Cookies in the shape of jerseys, baseballs and a square featuring the “B” logo were delicious!  Cookie Creatives by Jennifer impressed once again!

The metal bucket kept all the favors together

Favor bags included Cracker Jacks and Red Sox themed silly bandz,
tattoos, pez and m & m’s

Mini batting helmets were perfect for the “Make your own sundae”
bar and went well with the cake featuring the Red Sox logo.

Green Monster scoreboard – handpainted by me.  It was huge and my back hated me for it, but everyone loved it, even the surprise guest!

Wally was the surprise guest!  Thankfully I kept his appearance a secret since a week before the party my lil guy ended up in a cast (which was red for the Red Sox) and couldn’t swim or play ball.  Wally saved the day and he also signed his cast!

Couture Stationery by Cam Turner

The first time I saw these invitations I was in love. They’re absolutely gorgeous! The passion that Cam has for what she does is clearly evident when you look at her work. Her creativity is amazing…the colors, the designs, the papers…I love it all! To say she’s talented is an understatement. My First Piece of "So Chic" Clothing

I’ve wanted to try embroidering my business name onto something other than scrap fabric for awhile now but with the holidays and being busy in general I just haven’t had time. And well, I admit I was also a little frightened by it. So last night I finally did it! I designed it on the computer and then away to the machine I went! It wasn’t the best quality tank top but I didn’t want to do it on something expensive the first time around, just in case! It came out really nice though so now I want to embroider all sorts of things, maybe a sweatshirt, a shirt, a hoodie…who knows!

A Little More Light

Just one more service I offer!  I made these luminaries as samples a couple months ago and I now have them displayed in my office because I love them so much. I have had so many people tell me how much they love them when they see them.

Luminaries are great to light a pathway or to place around to give extra light.  I’ve done so many different style of luminaries, they really can be used for just about any type of party or theme. I have ones that I made for a bridal showes and the Harley party in September up on my site.

Etsy Store is Open!

My etsy store is up (finally)! As of right now I only have diaper cakes listed but will also take custom orders for other items that I create. I really enjoy creating diaper cakes because they’re just so practical, they make a fabulous centerpiece at the baby shower and a great gift for the mom-to-be. They’re more expensive than paper decorations, there’s no doubt about it, but unlike those decorations that will just get thrown out (what a waste), all of the items on my diaper cakes are usable so it does double duty.

My diaper cakes are made up of diapers, receiving blankets, bibs, burp cloths, wash clothes, onesies and a bunch of other little items. They can be done around a theme, they can simply be for a boy or girl or even made to match the nursery decor. I really like to use items from the baby registry so the future mom is also getting stuff she specifically registered for which means she really wants them.

Here are 3 of the 6 I’ve been working on the past week. Feel free to see the others at my etsy store!
